When it comes to producing, I’m not sure if anyone can currently touch Calvin Harris. Dude is that talented. His ability to make hit after hit and produce mainstream music that is not only tolerable but really well made is something I marvel at time and time again. Today the superstar DJ/producer dropped a huge announcement regarding his next project.
Pretty self explanatory. As you can see from the image above, there’s a video in the tweet that name drops all of the features on the album and the cast is absolutely star studded. Frank Ocean. Travis Scott. Kehlani. Pharrell. Katy Perry. Big Sean. John Legend. Migos. Schoolboy Q. Ariana Grande. Young Thug. D.R.A.M. Nicki Minaj. Lil Yachty. Jessie Reyez. PARTYNEXTDOOR. Snoop Dogg. Not to mention Future and Khalid who’s track can be heard as the minute and thirty four second clip plays.
Speaking of the clip, just that little snippet makes me on the verge of physically being unable to contain myself from waiting until June 30th. I need to drop what I’m doing and throw on a clean white short sleeved button down, some shades, hit a rooftop bar and grab a couple of mimosas and just enjoy life. You know what? Screw blogging. I think I’m going to take my credit card and get myself a villa on a private island and never come back to the states until collections literally comes and drags me home like David Dao.
As I mentioned before, I think Calvin Harris is one of the most talented people when it comes to making good music. The fact that he’s working with such a diverse group of artists who each possess very different styles and sounds and producing (what I’m banking on will be) high quality music is a feat few can pull off. Get ready for Summer, Calvin Harris’ new album is dropping June 30th.
Flume is an award winning artist, people all over the world have taken notice of his unique, genre-bending style as he’s ascended up the charts and onto mainstream airwaves. His latest track with Pusha T showcases yet again his diversity as well as the fact that he might be severely messed up in the head. Check out this little number below…
OK. What the actual fuck did I just hear? I don’t hate it. Not at all. But let’s be clear this track should only be played on a few occasions. 1. When you’re riding in your whip on your way to literally murder someone (hoping that doesn’t happen too often). 2. At an abandoned underground warehouse at like 6 am with people passed out with needles in their arms (hoping that doesn’t happen too often either). Let’s just say this one ain’t for the faint of the heart. Scary shit. Flume’s ‘Skin Companion ll EP’ is out now.
One thing I’m sure as fuck thankful for is that I’ve been exposed to some pretty dope music this year. That continues here with ‘Where Are You Now’ by Cookie Crumbles, whose Soundcloud account had merely 22 likes before I made it 23. I found this one in a Martin Solveig podcast in which he opened with it and has also been played by Afrojack, R3hab and Nicky Romero to name a few. Enjoy!
The Weeknd made some waves today, dropping an official tracklist alongside the release of two more tracks from his upcoming ‘Starboy’ album, including the second collaboration with iconic duo Daft Punk, ‘I Feel It Coming’.
The followup to their song ‘Starboy’ doesn’t just match the first outing, it takes everyone’s talents and elevates them to a whole new level. Starboy is a fun, catchy tune that is most certainly enjoyable, but I Feel It Coming is one of the best tracks I’ve heard in a while. Sometimes it’s hard to put into words what makes you like a certain song so much, but I’ll try. The final track of the album is a (not surprisingly) flawlessly produced track that allows the ultra talented singer to flaunt his range and ability. Not only are the Weeknd’s vocals beautiful, the signature robotic vocals from Daft Punk also evoke emotion from the listener, which never fails to amaze me since they’re…well….robotic. This is truly an epic track, something you close out an amazing season of Entourage with. If this track is any indication of what could come from the rest of the album then we might be in store for a classic in every sense of the word. ‘Starboy’ drops Black Friday.
You can check out the track in full as well as the official tracklist below:
To be completely honest I’ve never heard of artists Snavs or Fabian Mazur. But, my ears are just begging me to listen to their gut feeling that these two producers have an impending monster on their hands with their latest track ‘Wolves’. Wolves is that track you’re going to get sick of because something like the X Games is going to use it to show some dude flying thru the air upside down before every single commercial break. I could also see this one being used to introduce “an all new sleek, sexy gadget in shiny matte black or space gray or whatever gimmicky term is used nowadays to make something sound cool”. Whatever the case may be, this is an undoubtedly fresh track with real potential to become a universal hit. Check the preview below:
You know when you find that song? Like, that song? You know exactly what I’m talking about and this is it, this is the one. This is the one you have on repeat in your headphones, the one you play when you’re handed the aux, the one that manages to release every ounce of serotonin your little brain has left in it. I found this gem last month and since I’ve been pleased to see it take off as it’s starting to get the recognition it deserves. ‘This Girl’ is fun, catchy, and just overall a great time personified through song. Get familiar, I have a feeling you’ll be hearing this one quite a bit if you haven’t already.
You ever hear a track where you lose everything that makes you human and just revert back to your primal instincts? Well that’s what we have with this mega banger from Hardwell, W&W, and Lil Jon. ‘Live The Night’ has been played in the producers live sets for the past three years with never any hint of a release date yet alone a title. Well, they added Lil Jon to the mix and have finally released one of the biggest tracks of the year. This is a big, anthemic electro track that is a sure shot bet to send any crowd, big or small, into an absolute fucking frenzy. ‘Live The Night’ is out now on Mainstage Music.
I came across a track a while ago that I thought could get big. Now that I’m seeing it supported and remixed by heavy hitters of the genre, I’m convinced this is going to be a summer anthem.’Rinse And Repeat’ has some of the catchiest vocals you’ll hear in a track this year and frankly is just really dope overall. Usually, there’s either remixes that don’t match the original or vice versa, here I think that the remixes I’ve heard are all stellar in their own way and can each be played depending on the circumstance. Danny Howard damn well knows how to make a club track and the remix from Busy P & Boston Bun brings out a really unique, groovy sounding style. Well done, Riton, Kah-lo and friends, have a feeling we’ll be hearing these quite a bit in the upcoming months.
Halloween was fucking lit this year and we’re all probably still in the recovery process, but whether you’re ready or not the mayhem continues on this first Monday of November with four massive new tracks by some of the best the genre has to offer. On your mark, ya better get set…
Quintino- Scorpion (Hardwell Edit)
Hardwell is featured a lot on this site and the reasoning is pretty simple, he’s really fucking good. His originals are some of the most well identified tracks of electronic music but his remixes are nothing to mess with either. This is an electro banger that does a great job of bringing elements from different sub genres and combining them into one massive track. Number 1 on DJ Mag or not, Robbert is still at the top of his game and Scorpion fully supports that statement. This one is out now on Revealed Recordings.
Jay Hardaway- Electric Elephants
A big complaint nowadays is that a lot of music is sounding the same, that there’s a lack of originality. Jay Hardaway puts that notion to rest with his newest track ‘Electric Elephants’. Signed to Spinnin Records, Jay Hardaway’s arsenal of great tracks continues to grow at a breakneck pace. Definitely an artist to watch if you haven’t been already, plus he’s in my Instagram profile picture so you know he’s legit. ‘Electric Elephants’ is out now on Spinnin Records.
Riggi & Piros- Knightlife
Speaking of young producers, Riggi & Piros (from Jersey how cool is that) are some of the hottest in the game right now. I don’t even think they’re old enough to have a beer but this duo has already been recognized by some of the biggest in the industry. They are pretty much the prodigy of Tiesto so you know they’re fucking legit. Knightlife is a powerful progressive work, available now on Musical Freedom.
Afrojack- Unstoppable (Original Mix)
This one has really grown on me recently. Afrojack knows how to bring the craziness as good as anyone and ‘Unstoppable’ surely does not disappoint in that department. The first drop is a darker, clubbier sound then builds up to something that would set a festival completely off. ‘Unstoppable’ is available now on Wall Recordings.
‘Caracal’, Disclosure’s follow up to their ultra successful first album ‘Settle’ is finally here. I don’t want to proclaim an album to be amazing without hearing it in full but yo, this album is going to be fucking amazing. Most, if not all of the tracks already released have been stellar such as ‘Omen’ (their follow up collaboration with Sam Smith) and ‘Holding On’ featuring Gregory Porter’. Additionally the album features collabs with Miguel, Lorde and The Weeknd. Make sure you give this album a listen, however, Gratzfeed is not responsible for any impending addictions.
